Yesterday, which would be Saturday, June 4, I attended a year-end picnic/play day. This picnic was located at a park called Spring Glen Park in southern Alberta. The sun shone down on my head very mercilessly and the breeze was barely moving. The day started out with an assortment of races by the students and pre-schoolers. Lots of screams from the kids and cheers and shouts from the proud parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other happy bystanders.
Things were quite Normal & Nice until a new race was presented. It was called "put a piece of fabric, (called a blind-fold in this case) over your eyes, spin around once, then head for an orange pylon and try to beat everyone to it." This achievement is rather hard when all you can see is the piece of fabric in front of your eyes! Anyway, the school kids tried their luck at this game, some of them ending up in a heap of tears on the ground while others ended up near the fence or in the trees.
Finally it was my turn to try and win this race! I picked out a bright blue blind-fold and tied it around my skull. I waited for the command to go. A voice said through a megaphone, "One...Two...Three..SPIN!" so I spun 360 degrees and started jogging toward what I thought was the orange pylon. We had twenty-five seconds to complete this task and before I could find the pylon, a voice said, "Time's up!"
I took off my blue piece of fabric and noticed that I wasn't too far from the goal but I sure wasn't the closest. Each age group was allowed two tries at this so we headed back to the starting line with smiles on our faces and saying the words, "HO! That was fun!!"
We lined up in a row once more and readjusted our bandannas. Then the "123...SPIN" words were repeated and I took off at a faster trot than I had the first time.
Suddenly, I crashed rather hard into a girl who was also participating in this activity. We both fell to the ground and lay there moaning and wondering who we had hit. (or I was wondering at least, I don't know what she was all thinking about) As we lay there another female participant in this race, tripped over the fallen body of the first girl and landed right on top of my nose!
When we finally arose and cleared our vision by removing the pieces of a future quilt, the crowd didn't know how badly we were injured. the first girl that I hit had a sore collar bone and toe plus a rip in her dress. She had to go home to put on fresh apparel. I had a sore nose that quit being sore after a few hours and a headache that lasted for the rest of the day but is gone now! The other fallen female didn't get too badly hurt I don't think, probably just abit sore. So now you know, my friends, when you're blind-folded, who nows what may happen! :D
sounds fun. :)
